Nagbabala ang Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) nitong Biyernes, Setyembre 15, hinggil sa naitala nitong volcanic smog o vog sa Taal Lake.
“Since 10:00 AM today, volcanic smog or vog has been observed over Taal Lake by the Taal Volcano Network. Continuous upwelling at the Taal Main Crater Lake formed steam plumes that rose 3,000-meters high before drifting to the north-northwest,” saad ng Phivolcs sa Taal Volcano advisory nito dakong 3:15 ng hapon.
Bukod dito, may kabuuang 3,264 tonelada/araw din umano ng volcanic sulfur dioxide o SO2 gas emission mula sa Taal Main Crater ang nasukat ngayong Biyernes.
“Vog has been affecting the Taal Region since the first week of September 2023 as degassing activity from Taal Volcano continues to date,” anang Phivolcs.
Paliwanag din ng Phivolcs, ang “vog” ay binubuo ng volcanic gas, tulad ng sulfur dioxide (SO2), na acidic at maaari umanong magdulot ng iritasyon ng mga mata, lalamunan at respiratory tract na may kalubhaan depende sa mga konsentrasyon ng gas at tagal ng exposure.
Ang mga taong maaari umanong partikular na sensitibo sa vog ay ang mga may kondisyong pangkalusugan tulad ng hika, sakit sa baga at sakit sa puso, matatanda, mga buntis at mga bata.
Dahil dito, pinaalalahanan ng Phivolcs ang publikong iwasang lumabas ng bahay upang hindi ma-expose sa vog. Hinikayat din nito ang mga residenteng magtakip ng ilong, magsuot ng N95 facemask, at uminom ng maraming tubig upang mabawasan ang alinmang throat irritation o constriction.
Nananatili pa rin naman sa Alert Level 1 ang Taal Volcano. Nasa “abnormal condition” pa umano ang bulkan at hindi dapat bigyang-kahulugan na huminto na ang banta eruptive activity nito.
“Should an uptrend or pronounced change in monitored parameters forewarn of renewed unrest, the Alert Level may be raised back to Alert Level 2. Conversely, should there be a return of monitoring parameters to baseline levels after a sufficient observation period, the Alert Level will be further lowered to Alert Level 0,” saad ng Phivolcs.
