Tila nagbardagulan umano sina Vice President Leni Robredo at dating Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile dahil sa isang Facebook post ni Enrile na kinukuwestiyon niya kung anong klaseng abogado ang bise presidente.
Kumalat sa social media partikular sa Facebook ang umano’y iringan ng dalawa.
Sa isang post ni Juan Ponce Enrile tila kinukuwestiyon umano nito kung anong klaseng abogado si Robredo.
“VP Leni Robredo is billed as a lawyer and economist. May we know what kind of law practice did she perform,” aniya.
“Was she a trial lawyer? A corporate lawyer? A tax lawyer? A patent or copywrite lawyer? A tech lawyer? As an economist, what does she consider to be the bedrock of our economy?” dagdag pa niya.
Gayunman, sumagot umano si Robredo sa pamamagitan din ng isang Facebook post. Aniya, isa siyang developmental lawyer.
“I was a developmental lawyer engaged in public interest cases like defending the land rights of Sumilao farmers,” aniya.
Inilahad din niya sa post kung ano ang developmental lawyering, sakaling hindi alam ni Enrile.
“But you probably don’t know that because as evident from your post and examples, you only know big-ticket or money-making law practices,” saad ni Robredo.
“You defend the rich. I defend the poor. We are not the same,” patutsada pa niya.
Sa nasabing post ni Robredo, nagkomento ng sagot ang umano’y dating senate president.
“Thank you Madam Vice President. But even if you characterized yourself as a “developmental lawyer” for the poor, a term which I hear from you for the first time, you either litigate criminal or civil cases for them, or represent them in negotiations with landlords under the Agrarian Reform Law or represent them in dealing with government agencies to assert or protect their rights,” komento niya.
“No lawyer, in my experience, will operate in handling legal issues outside a courtroom or administrative agencies. No lawyer operates in vacuum. You either go to courtroom or administrative agency to assert and defend the rights of the poor or to protect their rights, liberty, or their property,” dagdag pa niya.
Sinabi rin umano ni Enrile na huwag daw agad siyang husgahan dahil alam niya kung ano ang buhay ng mga mahihirap dahil nanggaling siya umano rito.
“By the way do not easily judge me Madam President. I know the life of poor and oppressed people. I came from their ranks. I do not know if you did,” anang dating senate president.
“I understand you had been a PAO lawyer for one year. I am glad that you became a beneficiary of one of the laws that were the products of my labors as a legislator,”
Sa huling bahagi, may patutsada pa umano si Enrile kay Robredo.
“But one year of practice as a PAO attorney does not make you a skilled lawyer. One swallow does not make a summer. Be that as it may, you are a member of the BAR, but, with due respect to you, not yet a lawyer, in the full sense of the word. I am sorry to say that., Madam Vice President.,” aniya pa.
Sumagot pang muli sa panibagong post ang umano’y bise presidente.
“It’s very sad that a great lawyer like Juan Ponce Enrile continues to belittle and diminish my lawyering, that I am “not yet a lawyer, in the full sense of the word,” aniya.
“Many netizens and fellow lawyers have already responded to him by stating what all lawyers know: that being a “full” lawyer is not confined only to lawyers who go to court (litigation practice) or administrative agencies.Not to mention that Atty. Enrile did not read my previous post even – that I represented and defended the Sumilao farmers in court. I even attached a picture. Hindi nyo nakita, sir?” ayon pa sa kanya.
Hinihikayat din niyang mag-google si Enrile tungkol sa pagiging abogado niya.”Google might be a modern and recent invention compared to your immortal years Atty. Enrile but as they say, “libre mag google.””Female lawyers like me are always belittled but when we brandish our accomplishments, people then say we are “mayabang.””
Aniya, hindi siya mayabang at siya ang nagrepresenta sa pamilya ng murder victim pro bono na ipinanalo niya.
“I don’t want to brag and I am not mayabang but I have to tell Mr. Enrile this: I represented the family of a murder victim pro bono and I secured a conviction and won the case.”It was one of the hardest and most sensitive cases I’ve ever handled because the star witness to the murder was a child. I had to conduct the trial and direct examination of my witness with all the grace and finesse and expertise under the Supreme Court’s Rule on the Examination of a Child Witness.
“Elijah Kevin Santos was only 11 years old when his own brother and mother were killed right in front of his own two eyes. During Mother’s Day! By the grace of God, I won that case and got justice for EK’s family.”And I am so fortunate and blessed to have EK defend me on social media since 2016 from trolls and bashers who keep on saying “walang naipanalo na kaso yang si Leni.”” saad pa niya.
Binigyan-diin niya na isa siyang abogado sa loob at labas ng korte.
“So no, Mr. Enrile. I reject your condescension and belittling of my being a lawyer. I am flabbergasted at the fact that you feel the need to downplay the lawyering of others,” aniya.”I am a lawyer – in and out of the court – and no one can take that away from me.”
