Nagpaabot ng pasasalamat ang Department of Tourism (DOT) sa mga mambabatas matapos ang swift proceedings ng Hose Appropriations Committee sa panukala nilang P3.79 bilyon budget para sa fiscal year 2022.
Nagpahayag ng galak si Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat sa pagkilala ng mga mambabatas sa walang patid na trabaho ng ahensya kahit pa sa gitna ng pandemya.
“The help of Congress for the industry cannot be overemphasized as we always look up to both houses of Congress for support to our budget, policies, programs and opportunities to further develop our sector,” ani ni Puyat sa isang public hearing nitong Biyernes, Sepyembre 3.
Nagpasalamat din ang kalihim sa mainit na suportang natanggap sa adbokasiyang taasan ang budget para sa Intramuros Administration (IA) and the National Parks and Development Committee (NPDC).
Sa oras na aprubahan ng komite, sunod na dadaan sa ilang legislative mill ang lahat ng budget ng mga ahensya – House plenary, Senate, conference committee ng Houses at sa Malacañang para mapirmahan ni Pangulong Duterte at maimplementa ang General Appropriations Act of 2022.
Bago ang pandemya, naghatid ng P2.51 trillion o nasa 13 percent sa Gross Domestic Product ng bansa ang industriya ng turismo. Dumausdos naman ito ng hanggang P973.31 bilyon noong 2020 sa gitna ng pandemya.
Ayon sa DOT, patuloy na nagsasanay ang ahensya ng kanilang stakeholders para sa preparasyon ng potensyal na pagbubukas ng industriya.
“During the industry’s downtime, we were able to reskill, upskill and retool the tourism stakeholders with the health and safety protocols and operations under a new normal environment,” sabi ni Puyat.
