IGINIIT ni Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William ‘Butch’ Ramirez na malaki ang papel na gagampanan ng pribadong sektor para makalikha ng world-class athletes.
At sa panawagan ng PSC, kaagad na tumugon si Presidential Adviser on Sports Dennis Uy.
Sinabi ni Uy, founder at CEO ng Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, na makikipag-ugnayan siya sa mga kaibigan at kapwa negosyante para makalikom ng P1 bilyon para maidagdag sa pondo ng PSI.
Nanindigan si Ramirez na ang PSI ang ‘missing link’ sa tagumpay ng bansa na makamit ang minimithing gintong medalya sa Olympics.
“Hopefully, the coming funds we need the private sector (will) augment the budget of Philippine sports to raise P1 billion in pledges from sports-loving business people and conglomerates, hopefully, with the objective of supporting programs such as the PSI,” pahayag ni Uy.
“If you compare it to other Asean countries, it’s small as per capita. We are a little over P1 billion but comparing to other countries like Thailand, they have 10 to 20 billion spent for athletes, coaches, training, and facilities,” aniya.
Naniniwala si Uy na higit na makalilikha ng kompetitibong atleta ang bansa, sa pamamagitan ng PSI.
Sinabi ni PSI National Director Marc Velasco na hindi lamang tamang training ang maibibigay ng PSI kundi ang lahat ng aspeto para sa isang world-class athletes: nutrisyon, kalusugan, psychology, physiology at edukasyon.
“Hindi naman overnight ang success. But four years from, lalaban tayo uli sa Olympics sa Tokyo. Malay natin, ito na ang tamang panahon, higit ang tama ang programa na binuo natin ngayon pa lamang,” sambit ni Velasco.
Kumpiyansa naman si Ramirez sa patutunguhan ng PSI, higit at umayuda ang pribadong sektor at suportado ang programa ng pamahalan.
“The strength of the nation depends on the strength of the community. It is not too late if we start today but we must think about the future, our children,” aniya.
“The government will] decisively invest in engaging our youth especially the poor in productive activities if we want them to stay away from drugs and others bad activities,” pahayag naman ni Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco.
Ikinatuwa naman ng mga atleta sampu ng ilang mga sports officials na dumalo sa okasyon ang pagkakaroon ng PSI.
“Maganda ito kasi siguradong malaki ang maitutulong nito sa ating mga athleta para magkaroon ng scientific training and preparation for international competitions that could enhance their performance and chance to win medals,” pahayag ni Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) president Edgardo “Tito Boy” Cantada.
“Siguradong makakatulong ito ng malaki sa mga atleta nation kasi proven na to dahil naranasan ko na yan nung mag training kami sa sports institute sa Australia,” sambit naman ni Olympic boxing bronze medalist Roel Velasco.
