Laguna, kampeon sa 1st PCAP All-Filipino

NANGUNA sina 2-time Asian Junior Champion Grandmaster Rogelio “Banjo” Barcenilla Jr.at Fide Master Austin Jacob Literatus sa impresibong kampanya ng  Laguna Heroeslaban sa Camarines para tanghaling National Finals Champion ng Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) All-Filipino Conference nitong Sabado.

Tangan ang putting piyesa, ginapi ni Barcenilla si Christian Mark Daluz matapos ang 55 moves ng English Opening habang si Literatus, tangan ang black na checkmated si Ellan Asuela matapos ang 43 moves ng Modern Defense.

Hawak naman ang black, panalo si Grandmaster Mark Paragua sa Armageddon para sa Camarines matapos pasukuin si fellow grandmaster John Paul Gomez sa 25 moves ng King’s Indian Skirmish.

“It was a total team effort,” sabi ni Barcenilla, winner ng last two Olympiad qualifiers.

“Our championship match against the Camarines Soaring Eagles was the toughest and most intense among the matches that we had especially when we reached the do-or-die armageddon match. It was anybody’s match. We were just lucky in the last and deciding game. I would like to give thanks to all the fans, followers and supporters of Laguna Heroes.”  sambit naman ni Head Coach Arena Grandmaster Dr. Alfredo “Fred” Paez, isa sa apat na co-team owner ng Laguna Heroes na kinabibilangan nina engr.
