SYDNEY (AFP) – Pumayag nitong Miyerkules si Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull na magbigay ng formal apology sa mga biktima ng institutional child sex abuse, kinilala ang kanilang tapang at tiniis na sakit sa pagbunyag sa laki ng problema.

Napagdesisyunan ito kasunod ng five-year royal commission na nagdedetalye sa libu-libong kaso ng pang-aabuso sa mga simbahan, bahay-ampunan, sporting clubs, youth groups at eskuwelahan sa Australia sa loob ng maraming dekada.

Kalakip sa final report nito, inilabas noong Disyembre, ang 409 na rekomendasyon, kabilan ang official apology.

“The survivors that I’ve met and the personal stories that have been told to me have given me but a small insight into the betrayal you experienced at the hands of the people and institutions who were supposed to protect and care for you,” ani Turnbull.

“Now, I will deliver a national apology to the survivors, victims, and families of institutional child sexual abuse on October 22 here in Canberra.”
